A Grape and Cherries . . .

Yesterday we painted together again. Sophia painted a grape and I painted some cherries. Another great day!

I loved the light coming through the glass bowl and the wonderful colors and patterns in cast on the table! The good news is - thse cherries can “model” many times and still be eaten.

I found some cherries with stems still attached and had such fun, I ended up with a series of paintings. I will continue to add new paintings until the cherries are gone. Some have been painted five times before eaten! Such restraint.

"Two + One"

I painted this a while ago. I liked it at the time but it really didn’t excite me. Several days ago I took it out to have another look. Suddenly it was so obvious! I darkened the outside of the tea cup - the center section closest to the viewer - from the little rose-colored flower at the top to the base of the cup. Now it is just right! This section is darker than the photo shows.

The photo does not capture the rich colors very well either, but it does give a good idea of the actual painting.

"Morning Walk"

This is a popular walking path in Seattle. It has skaters, joggers, walkers and bikers in almost any weather. Sun is best and I love the long shadows of early morning and late afternoon.

This little glass dish belonged to my grandmother. It appears in several of my cherry paintings. I enjoy painting the shadow it casts as much as the glass itself, and I always like painting the many colors in cherries. When the stems are still attached, well that is the best!

These are such great models, they can be painted many times before being eaten! I still have some cherries with stems attached and will continue painting them until they are gone. Some have been painted five times before eaten! Such restraint . . . but still, each day the number in the refrigerator grows smaller.

More cherries! I am quite fond of blue and white in the kitchen. I also like painting cherries, especially the dark, dark red ones.

I always enjoy painting shapes that catch reflections. It is the changing colors in the forms that capture me.
