"Tea with Grapes"

6 x 5.75"
oil on gessoed museum board
SOLD

I seem to never tire of the wonderful discoveries in nature and the objects around me. I always find something new. As light and shadow patterns move, the objects they touch change color right before my eyes. I love watching these changes and catching them in paint.

Here I was most fascinated with how the light gave from to the grapes, where they became dark and where they became much lighter. They turned orange, purple, rose, and almost black and gave rich shadow colors to the dish.

"Twilight"

30 x 40"
oil on canvas

Twilight falls over Puget Sound casting its magical glow and the sound of silence. I do love this time of day.

“Twilight” is the largest of the paintings I delivered to an exhibition today. I usually paint much larger than the work shown on this site and just wanted to share this one with you today. The colors are much brighter than they appear here. There are rich shades of gold, peach, rose, lavender and many greens.

"Liquid Sunshine"

6 x 8"
oil on gessoed wooden panel

The rain brings so many refreshing painting possibilities. One of them is open umbrellas. This one cast a warm glow on the owner’s face and gave new colors to her coat.

When the bus came to a stop at the curb, reflections of people waiting under cover on the other side of the sidewalk suddenly appeared before me. Great fun to paint!

"Cherry Blossoms"

8 x 6"
oil on wooden panel

I stopped by the Japanese Garden in Washington Park on my way home from town several days ago. A light rain was falling, softening the color of everything. The cherry blossoms glowed as if they were little lanterns hanging in the trees. I walked up to have a closer look. The longer I watched the little flowers in the afternoon rain, the more I wanted to paint them. I love this time of year.

"Walking the Trail"

6 x 8"
oil on wooden panel

My husband and I often walk along this trail. We begin in a park along the Samamish Slough, crossing over several foot bridges before reaching this open area. Several bald eagles passed overhead on our walk.

"Waiting For The 4:45"

8 x 6"
oil on gessoed wooden panel

I spotted this man as I was walking up 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle. Waiting for the bus, reading the news, bright sunlight catching long shadows of people walking by, this was just too good to pass up! Instantly I knew I had to paint him.

"On the Way to 500"

8 x 6"
oil on wooden panel

This lounge area is just outside WPW Gallery at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle. As I was going to the gallery last week, I just had to stop a moment to enjoy the light falling on this reader and the tops of the chairs. Some chairs caught the blue cast from the terrace and some caught the orange from the painting on the wall.
